Daish beats transfer deadline because he knows Howe

Thursday 01st February 2007

Gravesend & Northfleet manager Liam Daish has beat the Nationwide Conference transfer deadline by signing MK Dons’ Joe Howe.

Howe, 18, is a right-sided midfield player and progressed into the Dons’ first team squad from their academy last season.

“I didn’t want to sign players just for the sake of doing so,” Daish told www.gnfc.co.uk.

“But I needed to strengthen certain areas of the squad and Joe’s arrival has enabled me to do it.

“I am delighted that he has joined us to play a par in the tough programme we have ahead of us.”

The Fleet, who were knocked out by AFC Wimbledon in the last round of the FA Trophy, welcome their Nationwide Conference rivals Rushden & Diamonds in the third round proper at Stonebridge Road on Saturday (3pm).

Fleet were reinstated back into the competition after the Ryman Premier League club fielded an illegible player - Jermaine Darlington - during their 1-0 win in Kent.
