My expectations for the season are to be up their challenging come March and that would be a great achievement as Step Five teams are getting better and better. says Crowborough Athletic boss Sean Muggeridge

CROWBOROUGH ATHLETIC boss Sean Muggeridge says he will take success in league games over tomorrow’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Sussex rivals Shoreham.

The Crows sit proudly at the summit of the Southern Combination League after beating Saltdean United 3-1 at home on the opening day and following that up with a 2-1 win at Eastbourne Town on Tuesday night.

“I was glad to get going on the first game of the season after a good pre-season,” said Muggeridge.

“We played Saltdean, a very good side, in the first game and it took us a lot of battle and determination to finally win 3-1.

“I said after the game that Saltdean would do well and that showed with their win over play-off losers Crawley Down Gatwick on Tuesday night.

“A win against Eastbourne Town was a big step for us as they will be challenging this season under the good coach Jude McDonald.”

Shoreham arrive at Fermor Road on the back of losing their first two league games, 2-1 at Little Common on the opening day and a 2-0 home defeat to Midhurst & Easebourne.

Muggeridge said: “Shoreham were newly-promoted last season going right through to March without losing, so I’m expecting a very tough game and it’s against a top bloke, Michael Death, who played for me and is a good friend and I know his side will play good football.

“I like The FA Cup and it’s good financially for the club and the chairman wouldn’t like me saying this but if you asked me which game I would like to win, Bexhill away on Wednesday night or tomorrow, it would be Wednesday’s league game for me.

“My expectations for the season, I never say really, but to be up their challenging come March would be a great achievement as Step Five teams are getting better and better.

“The volunteers at the club and structure is the best I’ve seen it and with the fantastic support from the club and fans you always have a chance.”
