We must ensure that we match the ambition and high expectation with our performances on the pitch, says table-topping Cray Valley boss Kevin Watson

CRAY VALLEY (Paper Mills) manager Kevin Watson says his side must match the high expectations from the club.

The Millers are sitting proudly at the top of the Isthmian League South East Division table, having collected six wins and two draws from their first nine league games at this level.

Three Bridges, who sit in the bottom three in the division with two wins and a draw from their opening 10 league outings, visit Middle Park Avenue tomorrow.

“With only a maximum of 10 league games played, making assumptions of the strength of the teams based on league position would be naïve,” said Watson, whose side came away from Burgess Hill Town with a 3-2 win last weekend..

“Whilst we won last week at Burgess Hill, as a management team we were critical of many aspects of our performance and that has been relayed to the players.

“Our ethos has always surrounded a focus on performance and the match result being a bi-product of the performance.

“November will be a measure of where we are as a collective unit. We have five league games in the month against teams that will all be expecting to improve on their league positions.

“Our league performances have, on a whole, been adequate, but we have performed below par in cup competitions.

“We are yet to win three consecutive games this season and so the Three Bridges game is an opportunity to improve and demonstrate some consistency.

“We remain without Jack Sammoutis following the injury he sustained in the abandoned match against Whyteleafe.  He is hoping to have a scan in the forthcoming week to ascertain the extent of the injury, before we can target timelines.

“It must be noted that’s lots of hard work has been undertaken over the last six months by club officials, committee members and volunteers to improve the holistic development of the club.  We must ensure that we match the ambition and high expectation with our performances on the pitch.”
