Cory will be my last summer signing, says Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says Dave Cory will be the last of his summer signings, writes Stephen McCartney.

The former Whitstable Town striker, who has spent pre-season trials with Blue Square South side Welling United and Ryman Premier League neighbours Margate, has agreed terms to become Cugley’s final summer signing.

Cugley, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk
this morning, revealed Cory will partner James Dryden up front as he looks to increase his side’s firepower.

“It’s one area we’ve been poor in over the last year or so,” admitted Cugley.

“We needed another forward and he (Cory) brings us a bit of quality; he works hard; he’s a good lad, and I think he’s looking forward to playing alongside Dryden.

With summer transfer activity at Cheriton Road at a minimum, Cugley, who is working under tight financial restraints, says he’s happy with his current squad.

“Michael Yianni (ex-Hythe Town) has signed as well, he’s been playing every game; his fitness has been good,” said Cugley.

“I’ve got to carry on with what I’m doing.  I haven’t got really any money to play with.  I’ve just got to go with what we’ve got from last year (other than Yianni and Cory).

“We literally ran with 11 players last year, which is impossible to do.  We’ve got it up a little bit more.  We’ve signed 14 at the moment.  I don’t think I’ll sign any more after that really.”

Invicta complete their pre-season campaign with a trip to Dartford on Saturday – a game that is FREE OF CHARGE to watch - but before that Tony Dolby's Hastings United visit Cheriton Road tomorrow night.

And Cugley is pleased with the way that his side are shaping up, ahead of both the games.

“We’ve done well,” he said.  “We’re definitely playing more football than we’ve ever played.

“We’re getting the ball down. “I’m really pleased with that.  We’ve changed our formation a little bit and we’ve been working on that.”

Looking ahead to playing Tony Burman’s Ryman Premier League favourites, Cugley warned: “It will be a hard game, they’re one of the favourites for that league aren’t they?

“It will be a nice test for us, obviously we’ve got a nice week before the season starts.

“It will be a nice game for the players, one they can look forward to.  It’s a lovely ground, there will be a few people there, and it’s a nice game to finish off pre-season.”

South Londoners Dulwich Hamlet arrive at Cheriton Road on the opening day of the Ryman League Division One South campaign on Saturday, 15th August.

“We’ve actually got what looks on paper a difficult start,” said Cugley.

“We’ll be ready, organised and we can’t do anything more.  Dave Cory gives us more options up front and we’ll work with what we’ve got.”
