We have very high hopes for the season ahead, says Chipstead manager Lee Roots

Saturday 09th July 2016

CHIPSTEAD manager Lee Roots says he is looking forward to the club’s pre-season opener against K Sports today.

K Sports are the artist formerly known as APM Contrast and they finished in the top six in their debut Kent Invicta League season last time out and will be competing in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division when the new season kicks off on 6 August after the two leagues merged.

Chipstead, meanwhile, finished in seventh place of 11 teams in the Kent County League Division One West.

“Very much looking forward to our first pre-season game,” said Roots.

“It’s a great occasion for us, the travel away to a decent ground and play against K Sports. It will be tough but an exciting test for us against higher league opposition.

“Our first two weeks of pre-season training has gone excellent with great work from all the lads and now we have a very busy schedule of games ahead.

“I will be travelling with a mixed squad for the game so we can look at new players and trailists we have and pre-season friendlies are always times to assess the talent, attain where everyone’s strongest position is.

“It’s the start of our campaign. It’s game one of many to come but is a game that we are all very much looking forward to.  We only have two days’ rest after the game before we travel to face another good side against Gravesham Borough on Tuesday evening.

“This is the club’s 80th anniversary this season so we have very high hopes for the season ahead.”
