Charlton's stars play Belvedere to raise money for ill youngster

Stars from Charlton Athletic’s past are coming to Kent on Sunday (1 October) to raise money for 12-year-old Charlton Athletic fan Karl Lewis, writes Stephen McCartney.


The Erith based youngster is suffering from a very serious illness so Charlton Athletic’s veterans side are playing Kent County League side Belvedere FC at the Memorial Ground in Abbey Wood, kicking off at 1.30pm. 
Current Greenwich Borough player-manager Peter Garland is one of the stars taking to the field.

Other stars include Leroy Ambrose, Bob Bolder, Richie Bowman, John Dunn, Steve Gritt, Derek Hales, John Humphrey, Luciano Masiello, Paul Mortimer, Michael Paye, Darren Pitcher, John Robinson, Martin Robinson, Peter Shaw, Colin Walsh and Simon Webster, who have been confirmed as taking part.

The side is being managed by Brian Kinsey.

Spokesman Bernard Wickham told www.kentishfootball.co.uk today: “The game has been arranged by former Charlton Athletic favourite Colin Walsh, who will be playing along with as many as 20 other former Charlton players making an appearance.

“Two former Charlton favourites are coming out of retirement just to play – prolific goalscorer of the early 80’s Martin Robinson and also Derek Hales.”

The match is to raise funds for the north Kent youngster to be sent on holiday.
There will be a raffle and the main prizes are a signed Charlton shirt and football.

Admission prices are £5 (adults) and £2 (children).
