Naturally, I am disappointed that I have not been given the time and opportunity to steer the club through its current difficulties and turn our season around, says axed Bromley manager Andy Woodman
ANDY WOODMAN says he will look back on his time at Bromley with enormous pride after leaving the League One club on Thursday morning.
The Ravens suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Leicester City – the 2015 Premier League champions – on Tuesday night, leaving the club second-from-bottom in the third-tier, with eight points from 10 games.
Woodman, 55, arrived at Hayes Lane in March 2021, and guided the club to their greatest achievements and it was a shock when chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves announced his departure after the mutual termination of his contract yesterday morning.
Woodman, who issued a statement via the League Managers Association, reflected on his time at the club.
“It is with great disappointment that my time at Bromley Football Club has come to an end after five and a half years of continued success and achievement,” said Woodman, who guided the Ravens' to the League Two title at the second attempt last season.
“When I arrived at the club, we had a vision of where we wanted to take Bromley Football Club. To have taken this club from non-league football to League One in just five seasons, as well as winning the FA Trophy at Wembley against a fantastic Wrexham side, is something I will always be incredibly proud of. These are achievements and moments that will stay with me forever.
“Naturally, I am disappointed that I have not been given the time and opportunity to steer the club through its current difficulties and turn our season around, particularly when we are just one point away from safety.
“I firmly believe that, given the opportunity and the return of key players from injury, we could have given ourselves every chance of achieving our objective.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Bromley supporters for the incredible backing they have given me and the team, both at home and away. Your support has meant a great deal to me throughout my time at the club.
“A huge thank you also to the people of Bromley, who have always made me feel welcome and treated me with such kindness and courtesy whenever I have been around the town. It has been a genuine privilege to represent this community.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the players I have worked with over the last five and a half years. They are the ones who cross the white line, make the sacrifices and deliver the results. The success we have enjoyed has been built on their hard work, commitment and belief, and they will always have my gratitude and respect.
“I leave knowing that I have given this football club everything I possibly could. I have always approached my role with pride, passion, honesty and an unwavering desire to see Bromley succeed. Taking the club on this journey has been one of the proudest achievements of my managerial career.
“I wish Bromley Football Club every success in the future and sincerely hope that whoever comes in next will treat this club with the same respect, desire, commitment and ambition that I have always tried to demonstrate.
“Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey. I will always look back on my time at Bromley with enormous pride.”
Assistant manager, Byron Webster – who scored THAT decisive penalty that beat Solihull Moors in a penalty shoot-out in the National League Promotion Final in 2024 – takes temporary charge, starting with Peterborough United’s visit to Hayes Lane tomorrow. Bromley are winless in their last five games.
The bottom four sides in the League One table are Peterborough United (nine points from 11 games), Barnsley (eight points from 10), Bromley (eight points, two wins, two draws from 10 games) and Wigan Athletic (seven points from 10 games).
The former Whitehawk manager, was in charge of 289 games, winning 123 games, drawing 90 and losing 76.
A club statement added: “Andy leaves with our deepest gratitude, three trophies to his name and with the very best wishes of everyone at Bromley Football Club.”
