Bromley - Wakeling concerned with seven game winless run

Saturday 07th January 2006
Bromley manager George Wakeling is confident his side will be winning again soon after somehow losing the Kent derby at Folkestone Invicta last Monday, reports www.bromleytimes.co.uk

The game was decided by a 12th minute strike from Walid Matata, although Wakeling saw enough to convince him a return to form is just around the corner.

He explained: "I'm really disappointed to come away with nothing because anyone who was there could see we should have been home and dry by the break after the number of chances we had.
"I spoke to Paul Parker at half-time and he said we should have been 4-1 up.  Their goalkeeper has produced some really important saves and deserves credit.

"Our second half performance maybe wasn't as good as the opening 45 minutes, but overall we did enough to win."

Bromley have failed to win a league game since a 1-0 success over Billericay Town in early November - a run of form that has seen them slip down to 15th in the Ryman Premier League table.

"I am alarmed and concerned, but I know what this league is about and the situation we are in," he added.  "I'm confident that we will be climbing the table soon with the players we've got here.

"We outplayed Worthing last week although we still ended up losing 2-1 and then Worthing went and beat Fisher 4-0.

"We just don't seem able to turn draws into wins and defeats into draws at the moment."

Adrian Stone and John-Paul Collier both moved on to Ashford Town at the weekend and Wakeling gave the departing duo his blessing.

"We are looking for replacements at the moment as we operate a one-out, one-in policy.

"Jerry Dolke (chairman) and I went to a game to look at someone the other day and we will be having another player watched this Saturday.

Wakeling will be taking his side to Chelmsford City's new Melbourne Park Stadium on Saturday, where a big crowd is expected.

Just under 3,000 watched Monday's official opening against Billericay and Chelmsford adapted well to their new surroundings with a 2-1 win.

"I'm really pleased they have got their own ground again because they are a big club.  I have no doubt they will climb the leagues in the next few years because they will be playing regularly in front of four-figure crowds."

Bromley's squad has once again been hit by injuries ahead of Saturday's game, reports the club's website - www.bromleyfc.net

Wakeling seems certain to be without current captain, Mark Willy who suffered severe bruising to his leg after a heavy challenge at Folkestone last Monday. Sam Wood (thigh) also looks likely to miss out on the visit to Melbourne Park Stadium as Bromley look to put an end to a run of seven league matches without a win.

Danny Carroll is unavailable for the match but will return for Tuesday's game at Braintree Town. On a more positive note Allan McLeod has resumed full training and should play some part at Chelmsford.

Steve Potterill has now left the club to join up with his former boss, Stuart McIntyre at Kingstonian. The South African born defender made 115 appearances for the club and scored two goals having signed at the start of the 2003/04 season.

There will be no coach to Chelmsford City this coming Saturday but there are still places available for the upcoming trips to Braintree Town and Maldon Town. The return fare for either match is £10. If you would like to travel please email the club at info@bromleyfc.net
