Bridon Ropes boss James Doherty: Our target is promotion and hopefully a cup. We are underdogs to win the league and cup but it’s nice to see little old Bridon competing

Friday 22nd February 2019

BRIDON ROPES manager James Doherty says his little club are underdogs for the Southern Counties East Football League First Division title.

The Charlton-based outfit sit in third-place in the table with 47 points on the board from their 22 league outings.

Welling Town remain at the summit with 56 points from 25 games and Ashford-based side Kennington follow in second-place with 52 points from 25 points.

Sutton Athletic are in fourth-place with 47 points from 23 games and Doherty takes his side to fifth-placed Erith & Belvedere tomorrow.

Owen Jones’ men have picked up 46 points from their 20 games tomorrow and have midfielder Harry Harding in top form in front of goal, notching 33 goals this season.

“It’s a massive game for both teams and it’s a real opportunity to send a statement to the rest of the league,” said Doherty.

“We go into the game in good form but as underdogs.

“We know if we win our games in hand we can go top, as can Erith & Belvedere.

“The last two games have been pleasing, a 3-0 win against New Salamis in the London Senior Trophy Semi-Final and a 2-0 win against Sporting Club Thamesmead.  We’ve kept two clean sheets and we controlled the game for 90 minutes.

“Our target is promotion and hopefully a cup. We are underdogs to win the league and cup but it’s nice to see little old Bridon competing.”

Meanwhile, these two sides will meet again in the London Senior Trophy Final on Wednesday 24 April at Fisher’s St Paul’s Stadium in Rotherhithe.
