We have a squad of very good players at Beckenham and I think we can achieve something special this year, says Billy Walton

BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton says he wants his side to achieve something special this season.

Beckenham Town, whom are managed to Jason Huntley, sit in third-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 12 points from their five league games.

They are a couple of points behind leaders Chatham Town but with a couple of games in hand and tomorrow Beckenham Town host Farnham Town in The Buildbase FA Vase Second Qualifying Round.

Farnham Town are one level lower than Beckenham Town and arrive at Eden Park Avenue in third-place in the Combined Counties League First Division table, having collected 12 points from five games.

Cray Valley reached The FA Vase Final last season, when they lost 3-1 in extra-time to Chertsey Town at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 19 May 2019, after winning the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division title on the last day of the season.

“We go into the Farnham game totally blind as we know nothing about them, all we know is that they’re doing well in their league,” said Walton.

“We feel tomorrow’s game is all about us. If we play how we can play, we will be ok.

“The FA Vase is the biggest competition for us to be in and we want to copy Cray Valley, both in the league and FA Vase.  We’ve got to set a standard and stick to it as players’ and managers.

“We have a squad of very good players at Beckenham and I think we can achieve something special this year but we must work hard to do it as there are other good teams in both competitions.”

Beckenham Town face a busy period in the next two days, with two derby games.

Walton added: “We have a tough week coming up with three games in seven days, with two derbies with Erith & Belvedere next Tuesday and then we’re away to Greenwich Borough. We will need to use all of our squad well to get the results we want.

“Hopefully it will be our year, with a bit of luck and I wish all the best to all Southern Counties East Football League sides in the Vase.
