Beckenham Town assistant manager Billy Walton: We are not interested in coming third or fourth - it is still possible to win promotion!

Friday 06th April 2018

BECKENHAM TOWN assistant manager Billy Walton insists he has not thrown in the towel in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division promotion race.

Five defeats in their last six games has put Jason Huntley’s men out of the promotion picture but they must win at top-of-the-table Sevenoaks Town tomorrow to bring their hopes back to life.

Micky Collins side have banked 69 points from their 30 games and Crowborough Athletic occupy the second automatic promotion place with 59 points from 28 games.

Whitstable Town are in third-place with the same record as the Crows while Beckenham Town are next with 56 points with seven games remaining.

“We want to challenge our players to win the last seven games and have an outside chance of promotion if other teams slip up,” said Walton.

“Let's try and put them under pressure by winning our games and not giving up until the end.

“We travel to Sevenoaks on Saturday and we are looking forward to another exciting action packed game as the last one was.

“We have a few players back in the squad who didn't play in last game against Sevenoaks, so it will be interesting to see if they can improve us and get us over the line.

“If we do not achieve promotion we will have had in my opinion one disappointing season as we are not interested in coming third or fourth.

“It is still possible to get promotion.  We are only three points behind Crowborough and Whitstable although they have games in hand but we must win our games and hopefully they will slip up and let us back in.

“I know we will be disappointed if we do not gain promotion but Jason Huntley has turned things around from last season and hopefully we can challenge again next year with a stronger team and squad I think we will.”
