It's The FA Cup, the biggest game in Bearsted's history, says manager Kevin Stevens

BEARSTED manager Kevin Stevens says their trip to Sittingbourne in The FA Cup Preliminary Round tomorrow is the biggest game in the clubs history.

The Bears travel to Woodstock Park sitting in the bottom three in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table having lost their opening three games to Beckenham Town (2-3), Punjab United (1-3) and Erith Town (1-3).

However, their only win has come in The FA Cup when Chichester City were beaten 2-1 at Honey Lane in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Sittingbourne are in fifth-place in the Bostik South East Division table, having beaten Horsham (2-1) and Greenwich Borough (4-2).

“Really looking forward to our game tomorrow.  How can you not? It’s the FA Cup, the biggest game in Bearsted’s history,” said Stevens.

“We’ll go there as underdogs understandably but on our day we can trouble anyone.

“Sittingbourne have made a good start to their season and we’ve been a bit in and out but that’s all forgotten tomorrow.

“The whole club will enjoy the occasion, there’s no pressure on the boys.  Our preparation has been good, we can’t wait to get going.

“The prize money is a bonus to any club at our level and hopefully we can win a bit more for the club, every little helps.

“The important thing is we get things right on the pitch and let’s see what happens, the next round would be nice.”

Bearsted then host newly-promoted side K Sports on Bank Holiday Monday (15:00) and Stevens expects another tough encounter against Kris Browning’s men.

“Kris always sets his sides up well, it’s a local derby so I’m sure it will be a tough game,” said Stevens.

“We’ve let ourselves down in our last couple of league games, so it’s really important we get back to the levels I expect and get some points on the board.”
