Ashford United accept Kent League promotion

Monday 03rd June 2013
ASHFORD UNITED have confirmed that they have accepted promotion into the Kent League.

Paul Chambers’ side finished in third-place in the Kent Invicta League last season, finishing 12 points behind champions Phoenix Sports – who only suffered one league defeat in 30 league games.

Phoenix Sports were promoted to the Kent League because they passed the ground grading criteria and because runners-up Hollands & Blair do not have the necessary requirements to make the step up, Ashford United have taken their place.

A statement issued by the Kent Invicta League said: “At a meeting in September 2012 the Kent Invicta Football League management committee agreed to promote two clubs to the Kent League as a one-off arrangement to assist the Kent League expanding its membership for season 2013-2014.

“Based on the FA acceptance of this decision the Invicta League are pleased to confirm that Ashford United are to be offered promotion to the Kent League along with champion club Phoenix Sports for season 2013/2014.”

A statement issued by Ashford United on their club website www.ashfordunited.co.uk added: “Needless to say, we have accepted this offer of promotion to the Kent League for the coming season.”

Ashford United spent two season’s in the Kent Invicta League and last played Kent League football 54 years’ ago, when they finished in ninth-place before being promoted to the Southern League.
