Ashford United stage Benefit match to raise funds towards Rhyle Ovenden's knee operation

Friday 20th May 2022

ASHFORD UNITED are hosting a benefit match to raise funds for Rhyle Ovenden at Homelands Stadium tomorrow.

Two teams combined of current and former Ashford players, as well as others around Kent, will take part in this fixture with all proceeds being donated to the midfielder.

Ovenden suffered another Cruciate Ligament injury during a home game against Faversham Town on 1 January 2022.

Ashford United manager Tommy Warrilow organised the game, which will go a long way in helping to cover Ovenden’s knee operation costs and loss of earnings.

Sam Corne, Danny Parish, Jerald Aboagye, Sam Hasler, Pat Kingwell, Liam Whiting and Jay Saunders have confirmed their availability for tomorrow’s benefit match.

The club will host its annual player awards ceremony after the match, which will see Warrilow and Tony Reynolds manage the two sides.

Warrilow’s side finished runners-up in the Isthmian League South East Division last season but their promotion bid was halted by Herne Bay, who won the Homelands play-off final 2-0 on 30 April to seal promotion into the Isthmian League Premier Division for the first time.

An online fundraiser has so far raised £640 towards Ovenden’s £16,000 operation costs and you can make a donation by clicking here.

The game at Homelands Stadium gets underway at 13:30 tomorrow, 21 May.
