ASHFORD UNITED supporters’ have reached their target to raise funds for seriously injured midfielder Adem Ramadan.

The 24-year-old suffered a lower double break of his tibia and fibula during an Isthmian League South East Division fixture away to Hythe Town on Bank Holiday Monday, which forced the fixture at Reachfields Stadium to be abandoned at 0-0.

The fixture has been re-arranged for Tuesday 3 October.

“Firstly, a true appreciation must go to the medical staff from both clubs who acted with the upmost professionalism,” said Ashford United manager Kevin Watson in a statement.

“Secondly, to all those associated with Hythe Town Football Club; the management, staff and players responded with admirable care and consideration and for that we thank you.

“To our players, who have witnessed a valued teammate endure such an injury, you demonstrated what it means to be a great teammate.

“I can say without hesitatation that Adem will remain a valued member of our squad, whichever capacity he is able.

“Adem was tasked with the challenge of getting back to his best.  I’m sure those that have witnessed his performances over pre-season and in this early part of the season, will agree that he was meeting that challenge.”

A part-time footballer in the eighth-tier of English football, Ramadan will only receive statutory sick pay and as an electrician will not be able to work for four months.

Ashford United fans’ set an online target of £4,000 to help support their injured player, and have raised £4,470 this week.

Lordswood midfielder Ethan Stewart, 23, suffered a nasty injury during the club’s 5-1 win over Ash United in The FA Vase last Saturday and well-wishers have raised £1,400 online to support the footballer who plays in the ninth-tier.
