Ashford apologise for late cup postponement

Wednesday 25th October 2006
Last night’s Westview Cup third round tie between Ashford Town and Cray Wanderers was subject to a late postponement due to a waterlogged pitch at The Homelands - despite passing an earlier inspection.

Mr Mark Jenner, the chief executive of Ashford Town, apologised to fans, insisting the club were not at fault.

He told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk: "Despite a pitch inspection by a referee at 2pm, which passed the pitch as fit to play, against our better judgement it must be said, the match referee decided at 6:45 that the conditions might result in an injury and called the game off.

“We did everything we could but in the end it is not the club’s decision.”

Ashford travel to Walton Casuals on Saturday as they aim to climb the Ryman League Division One South table.
