ASHFORD UNITED have appointed Paul Barnes as their new first team coach.

The Homelands outfit are struggling in the Bostik South after winning promotion as Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division champions under Danny Lye.

The club travel to Ramsgate tomorrow sitting in the bottom two, having collected two wins and three draws from their 16 games, one point clear of Shoreham, who occupy the sole relegation berth.

Jason Whitmore remains manager and Barnes, who was part of the coaching staff at Welling United, under Loui Fazakerley in National League and National League South, as well being a coach at Dover Athletic and Margate, has come in.

“We know that Paul will bring the experience to the dressing room that has been needed over recent weeks,” club owner Don Crosbie told www.ashfordunitedfc.com.

“This is a signing that we’ve been wanting to happen for a while but as a club we couldn’t announce anything until it was confirmed, as it has now.

“We feel this is a big step in the right direction for the club and a big milestone in our recent rebuilding process.”
