January will define our season, says Ashford United boss Danny Lye

Friday 01st January 2016

ASHFORD UNITED player-manager Danny Lye says January will define the club’s season.

The Nuts & Bolts go into the New Year sitting in the top three in the Southern Counties East Football League table on 38 points from 20 games.

Lye’s men are five points adrift of second-placed side Greenwich Borough and 13 behind leaders Hollands & Blair.

Ashford United travel to sixth-placed side Beckenham Town tomorrow in what will be a make or break month for the club.

“Tomorrow’s game is a vital one for us as we don’t play again in the league until the 30th January,” said Lye.

“Beckenham are a good side who score plenty of goals so we will have to be better than we have been the last couple of weeks.

“Our boys will go into the game high on confidence from a decent run of results and January will define how far we have come as a squad since we took over.

“Obviously we are a long way behind Hollands & Blair but know we have to just to keep getting the results and hope they have a blip.

“With the cups we will hope to progress in the next round of all of them and try to get to a final.

“We will take each game as it comes and as always try to win, win, win.”
