Another season like the last will not happen again, insists Lewisham Borough chairman Ray Simpson

Thursday 27th June 2013
LEWISHAM BOROUGH (Community) have confirmed that manager Willie O’Sullivan will keep his job for the forthcoming season but a new management team has been installed at the Ladywell Arena based club.

The club finished at the foot of the Kent Invicta League table after winning five of their 30 league games last season, but following a comprehensive interview process it was decided that O’Sullivan will remain as first team manager and will oversee all footballing matters at the club, which includes the first team and the new under 21 development squad.

Canturk Yanpur, who was Meridian’s manager in the inaugural Kent Invicta League campaign, has been appointed as assistant manager and head coach and will have responsibility for all coaching across the club.

Mick Morgan will remain as fitness coach (strength and conditioning) and will be assisted by Rachel Morgan.

Marc Bentz has been appointed as assistant head coach and under 21 development squad manager and his assistant is due to be appointed shortly.

Dominic Weston – who has previously played for the club along with Dulwich Hamlet and Crockenhill – has been added to the coaching team and will largely be involved with the development squad.

Chairman Ray Simpson said: “Work needed to be done in all areas of the club and I have increased the personnel behind the scenes to assist with the direction of the club.  These include several new directors and club members and a coaching team led by Willie O’Sullivan with the full expectation that another season like the last will not happen again.

“Most of the players from last season will remain with the club but we will be adding to them to improve the overall quality.

“There will still be a good base of teenage youngsters in the under 21 squad waiting to be developed further.

“Pre-season is in its second week and there is a real buzz factor about the place and plenty of bonding despite of the competition for places in this years’ overall small squad.”

As Lewisham Borough celebrate their tenth anniversary year they have announced a comprehensive set of eight pre-season matches which will involve both squad with the stand out fixtures being held over the first weekend in August at Ladywell Arena.

Conference South neighbours Bromley visit on Friday 2 August, before Ryman League Division One South Herne Bay arrive on Sunday 4 August.
