Angels' reserves reach second cup final as Casuals surrender tie

Wednesday 26th April 2006

Kent Intermediate Cup winners Tonbridge Angels’ reserve side are just ninety minutes away from their second piece of silverware, writes Stephen McCartney.

First half goals from Phil Cramp and Alex McEwan gave Julian Leigh’s side a 2-0 lead at Chipstead in the quarter-finals of the Suburban League Shield last night.

However, two quick goals from the Surrey side sent the game into extra time but a hat-trick from Andy Constable during extra time sent Tonbridge through.

Constable, who started his career with Bromley, has just finished playing in the Kentish Observer Premier Division with Whitstable Town and has also played for his local club Sevenoaks Town.

Tonbridge were expected to play their semi-final tie against Corinthian Casuals on Thursday night but the Surrey side have pulled out and the tie has been awarded to the Angels.

So the Suburban League Shield Final, against Burnham or Hillingdon Borough will take place on Tuesday, 2nd May. However, the venue and kick off time is to be announced.

Meanwhile, Tonbridge Angels’ Suburban League trip to AFC Wimbledon has also been re-arranged and now takes place at Kingsmeadow on Thursday, 4th May (7:45pm).

Tony Dolby’s first team squad will be hoping Corinthian Casuals don’t turn up as such as they need just a point on Saturday to secure third place in the Ryman League first division, ensuring their play-off matches take place at the Betterview Longmead Stadium.

The club would like to inform all supporters that season tickets are NOT valid for play-off matches and fans will have to pay on the day.

On Saturday night www.kentishfootball.co.uk will confirm whose playing who, where and when in the play-off matches next week.
