Angels' put poor Epsom & Ewell side in the Shade

Tonbridge Angels’ reserve side got their Suburban League campaign off to a brilliant start on Saturday, beating a poor Epsom & Ewell side 10-1 at the Betterview Longmead Stadium.

Former Sevenoaks Town striker Danny Powell, 18, helped himself to four goals with Aaron Shade netting a hat-trick (including one penalty).

Last season’s reserve team player-of-the year Manny Neville, John Sinclair and Richard Percy also scored to make it a miserable day for the Surrey visitors.

“A great start to the season,” admitted Angels’ second string manager Julian Leigh, whose side collected two pieces of silverware last season.

“But that said Epsom were a shadow of last year’s team but you still have to beat them.

“I think the partnership of Powell and Shade will be very important to the team this season. “Defensively it looks good with Richard Cole a welcomed acquisition, Ben Fitzer in goal looked sound and even though we will be disappointed with the goal he conceded he showed his class with the save just afterwards.”
