Angels "confident" of beating title chasing Bromley - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Thursday 25th January 2007
Steve Aris wants his team-mates to emulate their excellent midweek display against Chelmsford City when Tonbridge Angels travel up the A21 on Saturday to play another title chasing side, Bromley, writes Stephen McCartney.

A stunning hat-trick from striker Jon Main, taking his tally up to 28 for the season, gave the Angels an impressive 3-1 win against a side that would have climbed above Bromley and Margate at the top of the Ryman Premier League table had they won.

“Overall, much better to the honest,” Aris said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk of the Angels’ performance against the Essex side, having lost to Billericay Town on Saturday.

“In our last home games our performances haven’t been outstanding.

“From the last minute to the last (against Chelmsford) we were all at it and we done exactly what we wanted – got three points and got back on track.”

Any negative fans would be delighted that Tonbridge have reached their target of 42 points to play Ryman Premier League football next season, but Aris believes the club can achieve a lot more during their last sixteen outings as they are only two points from the final play-off berth.

“The way the league’s looking at the moment, you never know,” said Aris.

“We’ve lost a few games, we’re disappointed with that, but you look at the league table, you’ve still got a chance.

“No-one’s walking away with it. Everyone’s beating each other so a good run now onto the next month, you never know.”

Tonbridge’s skipper admitted the whole squad should receive praise, although striker Main receives the headlines.

“You don’t score goals if people don’t create chances for him,” he said.

“We’re a team and at the moment he stands out.  He gets all the accolades and deservedly so – but we’re all in it together.”

But the former Fisher Athletic defender wants revenge on a Bromley side beat them 2-1 a couple of weeks ago.

“We thought we done allright in patches against them,” he said.  “We started very well, just couldn’t get the goal.

“We’re doing well away from home at the moment.  It suits us but we’ll go there full of confidence.”

We shall bring you an interview with Angels’ manager Tony Dolby later.
