Angels complete Cade loan signing - EXCLUSIVE

Thursday 07th February 2008
TONBRIDGE ANGELS manager Tommy Warrilow will reveal the identity of the striker, whose arriving on loan from a Blue Square South club, tomorrow morning, writes Stephen McCartney.

STORY UPDATED AT 09:30 ON FRIDAY MORNING

Tonbridge Angels have completed the loan signing of striker Jamie Cade, 24, from Blue Square South outfit Lewes.

The paperwork was completed at 8am this morning.

Angels club secretary Mr Charlie Cole said that the former Middlesbrough, Colchester United and Crawley Town striker will remain at the Ryman Premier League club until 8th March 2008.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Matt Reed, who got red-carded against Folkestone Invicta last Saturday, will only receive a one-match ban.

UPDATED AGAIN - SATURDAY 09:30

Midfielder Michael Phillips has been released from his contract at Ramsgate and has headed west to sign for Tonbridge Angels - the paperwork being completed on Friday night.

Speaking at 21:30 on Thursday evening, the former Horsham assistant manager is 99% certain that the paperwork on the loan deal will go through in time for Saturday’s visit of Kentish rivals Margate.

Warrilow, meanwhile, believes goalkeeper Matt Reed was “harshly” sent off at Folkestone Invicta last weekend and has put in a seven-day approach for someone to give the former West Ham United and Walton Casuals stopper stiffer competition.

“We’ve got sixteen games to go (and we need a goalkeeper) to come in and give Reedy competition,” he said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“I’ve got a couple of goalkeepers to come in, we’re talking about a goalkeeper to come down to give Reedy competition.

“I’ve put seven days in to talk to him and we’re waiting for him. We have to look for someone to fill the gap.

“Competition isn’t a bad thing, it’s a must. It will be nice to keep everyone on their toes. If we can address that, we’ll get a stop gap in to see us through.”

Warrilow knows that his side, third from bottom in the Ryman Premier League table, must start picking up points during their last 16 league games - starting with the visit of Robin Trott's men.

“It’s not all panic stations,” he said. “We’ve got to start putting some results together.

“I’m not too disappointed with (the 3-2 defeat at) Folkestone. You have to go away and accept what’s happened, circumstances outside our control cost us the game.

“Major decisions went against us, we did regroup and we did fight back. One thing people can’t say Saturday, we always fight back as it’s proven throughout the season and Saturday is no different.”

But Warrilow will continue his re-building to ensure that the west Kent club maintain their Ryman Premier League status - before challenging at the right end of the table next season.

“Next season, that’s when we have the majority of it in place,” he said. “We’re always on the look and when we report back to pre-season next year, we’ll have the squad in place we believe will put a big challenge in.

“We’re always on the look out to improve the squad. We know the areas we’ve got to and need to look at.

“I don’t want to say where as it won’t be helpful for anyone.

“We’re not in dire straights about the way we’re playing or certain aspects of the game but we know we’ve got to improve.”

Versatile player Tommy Tyne, meanwhile, is set for a return to the squad, having completed his three match suspension.

For Margate, target-man Rob Haworth misses out through suspension so Charley Side, who netted a quick-fire hat-trick at Hartsdown Park earlier in the season against Tony Dolby’s Angels, looks set to start to partner James Pinnock up front.

Although the injuries and illness are showing signs of abating for Margate, Luke Coleman, Dean Standen, Justin Skinner, Dan Young and Michael Yianni are all expected to remain side-lined.

Winger Ryan Martin plays against his former club for the first time since his switch across Kent, with highly-rated defender James Donovan doing likewise for the Angels.
