Altrincham relegated

Tuesday 23rd May 2006

The FA today upheld the Conference's decision to deduct 18 points from Altrincham for fielding an ineligible player, reports www.gnfc.co.uk

James Robinson who arrived at Altrincham from Accrington had previously played in Iceland and did not have the necessary international clearance.

Under Conference rules, the penalty for fielding an ineligible player is all points earned in matches in which he played.

As a result of this deduction, Altrincham finished bottom of the Conference and will be relegated, thus saving Scarborough, provided that the latter can show that they are financially secure for next season.

Liam Daish’s Gravesend & Northfleet side finished their campaign in sixteenth place in the table with 49 points from their 42 matches.
