Nugent strike sends holders out
Bromley 0-1 Dulwich Hamlet
London Senior Cup Quarter-Final
Tuesday 3 February 2004
Holders Bromley surrendered their grasp on the London Senior Cup in
a disappointing display against old rivals Dulwich Hamlet at Hayes Lane tonight,
writes Stephen McCartney.
Dulwich entertain Ford United in the last four of the competition, the side
Bromley beat 1-0 in last season's Final at Victoria Road, Dagenham.
The winning strike came in the 24th minute when Justin Bowen
played the ball for Meshach Nugent who flicked the ball over Bromley goalkeeper
Danny Harwood and into the net.
Bromley offered very little in attacks throughout the game with Bromley's top
scorer, Adolph Amoako twice going close and a Michael Harney free kick sailing
over the crossbar ten minutes into the second half.
Bromley were saved by an offside flag after 63 minutes when Russell Bedford's
cross-cum-shot from the right channel flew over Harwood and dropped into the net
inside the far post, but the flag was raised for a dubious offside inside the
penalty area.
Harwood, however, made two brilliant reflex saves from Nugent, a minute before
his match-winning strike, and from Ronnie Green just before the hour.
