Bromley slide down table after frustrating defeat

Tuesday 27th December 2005 Ryman Premier League Colin Head reports from Courage Stadium
Bromley 1 Nick McDonnell 80
Worthing 2 Mark Knee  3, 81

Bromley slipped further down towards the relegation zone after a frustrating Bank Holiday afternoon defeat at home to Worthing, writes Colin Head.

After conceding within three minutes The Ravens then battled away for the equaliser for 77 minutes only to concede again with the very next attack.

Bromley were slow off the marks and looked sluggish not adapting at all well to the 3-5-2 formation, within 3 minutes they were one down from a scramble in the box that was finally turned in by Mark Knee.

Joe Vines picked up a nasty head injury and eventually had to go off forcing George Wakleing and Billy Smith into a reshuffle, with Danny Carroll switching to centre back.

Bromley rallied as the half went on and began to dominate possession. Tutu Henriques had a header blocked, Nic McDonnell was denied by ex-Bromley Keeper Chuck Martini and Jones Awuah shot wide.

A great move involving McDonnell, Carroll and Colin  Luckett set up Awuah but his goal bound shot was blocked on the line by Cable who appeared to use his hand.

Just as the half came to an end Mark Willy had a good header saved by Martini from a corner, but Bromley couldn’t find their way through.

Bromley started the second half on top and continued to press for an equaliser, but occasionally they were caught on the break and from one of these Henriques had to make a brilliant saving tackle on Lutwyche.

Awuah had a good effort saved by Martini, but Worthing also went close twice more before Wade Falana was introduced and Bromley immediately showed more attacking power.

Referee Mr Buck turned down what looked a clear penalty for a foul on McDonnell and then Martini saved well from Locke.

As time went on the former Ravens goalkeeper wasted more and more time, which went unpunished by the officials. Frustration was almost at boiling point after two more corners were kept out by the Moroccan International custodian, but the break through finally came on 80mins when a powerful header by Falana was tipped onto the bar only for McDonnell to head home the rebound from close range.

It looked like Bromley had earned their point, but with the very next attack it was 1-2 to the Sussex side when Knee cashed in on poor defending and a hesitant keeping by Walker to score his second of the game.

Despite this massive blow Bromley still kept going and had a few more chances before the final whistle sounded and The Ravens were left pointless and cursing their luck.
