On a wet and wild night in the Bristol suburbs Bromley progressed to the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round to take on Aldershot Town at Hayes Lane on October 22, writes Colin Head.

Before the game began torrential fell for an hour and by the kick off there was standing water in the goal mouths, the large travelling support from Bromley feared they may have to come back, but the Mangotsfield pitch held up well to the elements.

The game got off to a cracking pace, with players slipping and sliding on the surface, but still managing to move the ball around well.

The home side dominated early proceedings Casey went close and they had a goal ruled out for offside.

Bromley forced their way back into things, Adrian Stone headed over a Allan McLeod cross and Sam Wood went close again.

The Mangos opened Bromley up twice with slick passing moves, but on both occasions Andy Walker made great saves to deny them.

McLeod sent in another great ball which Wade Falana just couldn’t connect to and just before the break Wood was denied by a fantastic save from Greaves to keep the scores tied at zero.

The rain eased in the second half and Bromley had more of the possession and pressed the home side back.

Wood was denied after connecting to a Stone cross, but play was then held up for a long period while the Linesman received treatment for a shoulder injury. Once play got going again Bromley took the initiative, but The Ravens were often caught offside.

Mangotsfield then got back into things and went close a couple of times, Wood clearing the ball off the line from a corner.

George Wakleing rang the changes as brought on Fraser Logan and Barry  Gardener for Steve Potterill and  Falana who had run himself into a standstill.

Gardener’s pace down the right caused the home side problems and he cut in and went close with low shots twice.

But on 84 minutes the beak through finally came for The Ravens, Gardener sent over a corner and Stone flicked the ball on over the Keeper and in off the far post.

The ball was hooked away by Casey, but once the Referee Mr Sinclair checked with his Assistant he gave the goal and the travelling fans behind the goal went wild!

There were a couple of late scares for The Ravens but they held on and won a memorable cup tie setting up an even bigger one in less than two weeks.
