Ashford's poor run continues
Ashford Town slipped to their third successive league defeat
against Kent rivals Bromley to leave them struggling at the base of the Ryman
Division One table and facing a real struggle to avoid relegation.
In a game that lacked any finesse throughout, it was Bromley, now
managed by former Town
boss George Wakeling who thoroughly deserved their victory as Terry Fenwick's
side failed to offer any attacking threat.
Town were always on the back foot against the pacy Bromley attack led by
impressive top scorer
Adolph Amoko and burly midfielder Soloman Taiwo and it was no surprise when they
combined to open the scoring in the 37th minute.
A long punt from keeper Andy Walker caught the Ashford defence square and Amoko
broke through only to see his shot bravely stopped by keeper John Whitehouse
only for Taiwo to follow up from twelve yards.
The killer second came on the stroke of halftime when Taiwo broke free down the
left and crossed for Gary Drewett who was left in acres of space to loop his
header past Whitehouse.
The second half began with strikers Paul Jones and Leon Dussard struggling to
get into the game as the talented Taiwo dominated the proceedings and it was no
surprise when his through ball set Amoko through and he lobbed Whitehouse who
seemed to hesitate coming off his line into the corner of the net.
Trying to score the perfect goal saved Ashford any further blushes though Taiwo
did smack the crossbar with a 25-yard free kick while Drewett saw another effort
cleared off the line.
Fenwick has a tough time on his hands in trying to avoid the drop as the Nuts
and Bolts now lie a full ten points inside the relegation zone.
