Bromley limped out of the FA Trophy for another season after being comprehensively outclassed for an hour on their visit to Hertfordshire, writes Colin Head.

Almost from the beginning The Wood, who are top of Southern League Eastern Division, tore Bromley apart at will with a combination of fast wing play and good set pieces.

This wasn’t helped when Bromley suffered a massive blow straight from the kick off with Allan McLeod going down with a shoulder injury, which required hospital treatment.

With no fit defenders available Fraser Logan came on and Adam Locke slotted in as emergency right back.

From that moment on Boreham Wood attacked down the wings and opened the defence up at will.

Andy Walker had to make two great saves from Leon Archer and Chris Bangura and Ian Cooper both shot over from close range after defensive slips.

The first goal eventually came on 22 minutes when Archer finished off a good move.

Only two minutes later it was 2-0 when Archer was on hand to finish off the next attack following confusion between Walker and Joe Vines.

As Bromley found themselves second to every ball and tackle it looked like it would be a long afternoon, but The Ravens did rally going into the half.

They staged some nice looking attacks, but they were repelled by the impressive home back line, with both Lee Harvey and Mark Smith looking very solid.

The second half started evenly, but The Wood made the vital beak through to secure the result on 56 minutes. A corner from the left was collected by Walker, but on his way down he dropped it and Bangura pounced on the loose ball for 3-0.

As in the first half two minutes after one goal Boreham Wood scored again. This time a corner from the right was smashed home by Cooper for 4-0 after Bromley failed to clear.

On the hour mark Bromley scored their only goal of the game when a Logan cross was spilled by Noel Imber and Nic McDonnell headed in from close range.

Walker made another good save before The Ravens had a good penalty shout for hand ball by Samuel, which Referee Williams chose to ignore.

Wade Falana and Kevin George came on, for the ineffective Stone and Gary Drewett, to boost the attack and Falana did well to win a ball and run in on goal, but his shot just went over the bar from 10yards.

Imber pulled off good saves from Kevin George and Logan as Bromley rallied. Logan was denied once more by a goal line clearance late on and the rebound was deflected wide, but there was to be no miracle come back with the damage had being done inside the first hour of play by the impressive home team forwards.

With only three fit defenders left in the Senior Squad it may be a blessing in disguise to have gone out of one of the many cup competitions.
