Goodwin returns to Casuals for first team action
In a search for more football, James Goodwin has re-joined
Corinthian-Casuals from Bromley, writes Stephen McCartney.
Goodwin left the Tolworth based famous club to join Ryman
League Division One South rivals Bromley in the close season but his
opportunities at the Clive Christian Stadium in Hayes Lane have been very
limited with Adolph Amoako, Tony Reid and Leroy Huggins ahead of him in the
pecking order.
Amoako scored a brace in Saturday's 3-0 win over Dartford in
the FA Cup second qualifying round and Reid completed the scoring after 83
minutes, having replaced Amoako as substitute early in the second half.
Huggins' 81st minute penalty beat Dartford goalkeeper Jimmy
Jackson but referee Ian Gosling ordered the penalty to be re-taken and Simpson
saved Huggin's re-taken spot kick.
Bromley manager Stuart McIntyre said: "I have released James
Goodwin's registration because he wants to get some games in. He feels he is
not keeping his fitness up. He is progressing as a football player
technically, he feels, but isn't getting any games in. He has gone back to
Corinthian-Casuals for the time being. He will be playing and I hope he
avoids injury. The aim would be, that in some time, he will come back to
Bromley. He is a kid that I like but he has some things to work on and he
knows what I have asked him to work on.
McIntyre praised the club's supporters for their vocal support
and their numbers in Saturday's 3-0 FA Cup win over Dartford.
A crowd off 542 - the highest number that have watched
McIntyre's men since his appointment in October 2001 - saw Bromley go through
to the FA Cup third qualifying round. Another two wins will see the Ravens
reach the FA Cup first round proper for the first time since 1996.
McIntyre added: "Well done supporters! I heard you guys
today. I think that's the turning point for them. I think they realise we
are moving forward."
