Bromley's under ten's secure second trophy
Having won the Coulsdon Athletic five-a-side Tournament earlier
in the summer, Bromley's under ten side secured a cup winning double after
winning the Croydon Football Club six-a-side Tournament last Saturday, writes
Stephen McCartney.
Bromley's under ten's were placed in Group 2 along with Seymour Villa A, FC
Elmstead, Croydon A, Whitehorse B and Croydon C.
The top four teams in the each group would qualify for the quarter-final stage,
and games would last five minutes each way.
The first game was against Croydon A. Bromley got off to a flying start when
Lee Rix scored the first goal to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead at the break.
Croydon A were quickly on the attack and scored two second half goals to win the
match 2-1.
Having gone through their last tournament with a 100% record, having kept a
clean sheet, this defeat would have been a shock to Bromley's system.
Bromley had to respond in the second game which was against Seymour Villa A.
Bromley were in determined mode after their opening match defeat. Two goals
from Bradley Goldberg and a goal from Dammy Shitta gave the Ravens a 3-0
victory.
The third game was against Croydon C and local pride was at stake, having
already lost to a Croydon side in the tournament. A brace from Goldberg helped
Bromley restore their pride with a 2-0 win.
Whitehorse B were unbeaten when they met Bromley, but they couldn't beat the
flying Ravens and a Shitta goal gave Bromley a vital 1-0 victory.
Bromley's final game was against FC Elmstead and after Jamie Bonshor gave
Bromley the lead, a free kick from Joe Harding helped give the young Ravens
another victory.
Bromley reached the quarter-finals and after a long wait met N G Allstars.
Bromley had beaten this side in their last tournament so would have to be
cautious when playing them, as they would be all out for revenge.
The supporters along the touchline made a lot of noise but the Allstars side had
equalised shortly after Goldberg had given Bromley the lead. With extra time
looming Harding scored to give Bromley a 2-1 victory to book their place in the
semi-finals.
Bromley played Stanhope in the semi-final and the game ended goal-less at full
time so it went into extra time. Extra time would last two minutes each way and
Bradley Goldberg came up with the trump card, scoring a late winner to send
Bromley into the final.
In-form Whitehorse A needed penalties to beat Croydon A in the semi-final and
met Bromley in the final.
In a very tight game, which went into extra time, Bradley Goldberg was Bromley's
hero scoring the only goal of the game to send the Bromley supporters wild. A
very long day, but very rewarding for the young Ravens, as the club collect
another trophy to go with the Coulsdon Athletic Tournament, and the London
Senior Cup, which was won by Stuart McIntyre's first team at the end of April.
