Ford: Support us on Thursday night

The Kentish Observer League Cup gets underway on Thursday night, and VCD Athletic manager Martin Ford hopes floating fans flock to Harrow Meadow to watch their Group C opener against Deal Town, writes Stephen McCartney.

Ford told www.vcd-athletic.co.uk they have switched the fixture to a Thursday night in a bid to improve attendances.

"With the amount of football on the box now during the week, all clubs are struggling to attract that supporter, who maybe is looking for a local game to go and watch," he said.

"If it means we can get a few extra supporters through the gate, why not give it a try?

"It will certainly be interesting to see if our gates get any better."

Meanwhile, the club have completed the signing of former Dartford skipper - and fans favourtite - Mark Horan from Kent League rivals Erith & Belvedere.

VCD assistant manager Dean Frost added: "Mark will bring that bit more experience to the squad and will keep our midfielders on their toes and adds competition for places."
