Don't take Sporting Bengal likely, says Metcalf

TUNBRIDGE WELLS manager Kevin Metcalf is expecting a tough encounter against much-improved Sporting Bengal United at Culverden Stadium on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Metcalf's side were embarrassingly the only side in the Go Travel Kent League to lose to the east London outfit in Kent League action last season, going down 4-0 at home.

However, Sporting Bengal have already surpassed last season's point tally of five last season, and are currently sitting in second place in the table with two more points than their efforts in thirty matches last time out.

Metcalf warned: "Obviously they beat us 4-0 at the end of last season, so it showed how much they improved towards the end of last season.

"We are not taking the game likely due to their start to the season."

You could say Sporting Bengal's best ever result in their short 33 game Kent League history came last Saturday when they defeated former Football League club Maidstone United 1-0 at Bourne Park, which made many people in the county sit up and recognise they are no longer going to be the league's whipping boys, and will be looking for more scalps this season.
