Thamesmead sign highly-rated Twin

Thamesmead Town are pleased to announce another new signing, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Bayliss Avenue outfit have signed central defender Danny Twin from Ryman League Division One side Tooting & Mitcham United.

Mead manager Paul Blade told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk : "It's a fantastic signing for the club to bring someone of Danny's ability to the squad.

"His experience of playing at a higher level will be very valuable to us.

"He came down pre-season and wanted to have a look and was impressed with what he saw as we were with him.

"Quite a few other clubs were looking at him from higher leagues so I'm pleased he choose us.

"It shows that the club is moving in the right direction."

Meanwhile, the Mead's assistant manager, Keith McMahon admitted he is looking forward to their opening Kentish Observer League game of the season.

Thamesmead make the short trip to Harrow Meadow in Eltham to take on VCD Athletic.

Martin Ford's side will be groundsharing Greenwich Borough's run-down ground, after spending two years in the Medway area at Lordswood, and prior to that were playing their matches at Thamesmead.

"It's an interesting game to start with," McMahon admitted.

"One that must have raised a few eyebrows, but it's a game that we are looking forward to and a game that we can get fired up for, which is what we need.

"Both teams know each other very well and like us, VCD will be a strong side this year.

"We are looking for a good start to the season, and a positive result in this game can give us that."
