Slade Green moving in right direction - both on and off pitch

THE LONG running saga regarding the erection of a fence to cover the whole perimeter of The Small Glen has finally come to an end, writes Stephen McCartney.

Work on the fence, at Go Travel Kent League outfit Slade Green, is expected to begin at the end of this month.

The plans have been in place for over a year but were not put in front of the FA's Football Stadia Development Committee until last Thursday due to problems involving planning permission with Bexley Council.

Back on the pitch, just as they did seven days earlier against Southern Leaguers Tilbury, Slade Green again sunk themselves by scoring two own goals as they went down 2-1 at Essex League side Basildon United on Saturday.

Chris Tuley was Green's goalscorer with a second half penalty conversion.

Manager Phil Miles commented: "It was a bit disappointing out there today in view of the way we performed against Erith & Belvedere and Cray Wanderers in the week -  we missed chance after chance.

"However, bearing in mind we have built a relatively new side inside the space of six weeks and we are certainly moving in the right direction."
