Lordswood gave two debuts to Kevin Brown
(Greenwich Borough) and Ronan O'Conner (local football) on a wet and windy day
at Bourne Park.
After only six minutes Gary Peck passed to Glen
Barlow who ran on and from the edge of the penalty area his chip was finger
tipped onto the post by Kevin Hudson before being cleared by the home side.
After 18 minutes a Lordswood attack broke down and
Richard Sinden put Simon Austin in and raced clear from the half way line and
into the penalty area but goalkeeper Paul Piggott saved the shot with his
legs.
Just before the half hour mark, Austin fired a
shot from 30 yards over the bar but Maidstone took the lead after 30 minutes.
A free kick found the unmarked Ross Edwards and
his cross picked out Nick Davis whose looping header beat Piggott.
Maidstone doubled their lead in the 39th minute
when former Lordswood player, Danny Kedwell on the left passed to Elliot
Bradbrook who reached the by-line and his low cross found Sinden who turned to
score from six yards.
Lordswood came out for the second half with more
purpose and in the first 25 minutes of the half dominated possession without
causing experienced goalkeeper Hudson any problems.
Maidstone had sporadic raids in the meantime, and
one chance Lordswood created in the 59th minute saw Sam Colyer try his luck
from 25 yards and Hudson was forced to tip the shot over his bar.
Maidstone increased their lead in the 76th minute
when another Lordswood attack broke down and in a counter attack Sinden on
halfway threaded the ball through to Lyndon Rowland. The striker,
recently signed from Dr Martens League Eastern Division outfit, Tonbridge
Angels, went into the penalty area and slotted past Piggott.
Seven minutes later, Neil Davey fed Sinden who
scored from an acute angle to give the Stones a deserved victory.
