Giant goalkeeper Wietecha signs for Stones

With goalkeeper Pat Mullin now suspended until early October, Kentish Observer League club Maidstone United have announced that experienced goalkeeper Dave Wietecha will be standing in over the next month, reports www.maidstoneunited.co.uk

Thirty-one-year-old Wietecha, who stands at 6” 6’, is a highly experienced keeper who until recently was playing at Ryman League Premier Division Folkestone Invicta where he made over 100 appearances.

A knee injury cut short his stay at Folkestone when he had to undergo surgery to alleviate the problem. Unable to play full time now, he agreed to join the Stones for September where an experienced keeper will be needed as they aim to continue our run in the FA Cup as well as start their FA Vase campaign.

Speaking about the former Bromley goalkeeper, coach Alan Walker said: "We're delighted we've been able to get a keeper with such a wealth of experience to cover for Pat. He's got Football League experience having started his career with Millwall and having had loan spells with Crewe and Rotherham. He also has a great deal of experience at non-League level as well."

Stones are also going to be without the services of both Jimmy Strouts and Simon Austin this weekend with both serving one-week suspensions picked up at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, former Wimbledon defender Gary Kimble picked up a slight knock last weekend and missed training this week, but manager Lloyd Hume is hopeful that he will be fit for Saturday's visit of Burnham in the FA Cup.
