The road to the Boleyn Ground, the home of West Ham United, is over for another year for Lordswood as they crashed out of the FA Vase to Kent League rivals Ramsgate.

The game started off quickly as Ramsgate got into their stride and in the second minute they should have taken the lead when Aaron Robinson went down the right before getting to the by-line and crossed to the back post where Mo Takalobighasi was unmarked but his header found the side netting.

Lordswood settled down after that scare and in the sixteenth minute they nearly took the lead when Grant Gallagher picked the ball up in midfield and went forward and his twenty-five yard shot beat the goalkeeper but struck the post.

Ramsgate retaliated straight away as Takalobighasi saw his 25 yard shot saved by Paul Piggot at the second attempt.

The very next minute, the 22nd, could have seen one of the most bizarre goals ever scored as Danny Twyman received a back pass, steadied himself, and hit his clearance but it hit John Gissing on the head and looped over Twyman but went just past the post.

The last chance of the half came in the 44th minute when a long ball forward found Takalobighasi and Piggot easily saved the instant shot.

The second half was only five minutes old when Robinson running onto a forward pass, looking suspiciously offside, chipped over the onrushing Piggott but the shot went wide of the upright.

The next minute the home side were not lucky as Robinson on the right, cut inside, and from 20 yards saw his shot deflect off a defender and into the net beating Piggott.

Robinson was causing no end of trouble in his new role and in the 55th minute his low cross caused confusion in the Lordswood penalty area, which saw Simon Pettit six yards out shooting at goal but David Johnson was on the line to clear the ball straight at Pettit and the ball went over the bar.

Ramsgate were now enjoying the lion's share of the game and in the 75th minute James Gregory in the penalty area saw his shot pushed away by Piggott.

The last few minutes of the game saw the hosts push forward trying to force extra time but they lacked penetration and eventually ran out of steam.
