Reserves want a better Deal

DEAL TOWN are pleased to announce Craig Harman will be assisting their reserve side next season, writes Stephen McCartney.

Harman joins the club from Canterbury Saturday League side Wingham and has been a very keen local player having been involved with Woodnesborough.

Dave Gear, however, is staying on to coach as well as play, bringing the side vast experience and knowledge of the game.

Deal's reserve team manager, S Bennett (sorry I don't know his first name) told the club's website: "Now I know "Geary" isn't everybody's cup of tea but I would have no other in that dressing room with me, as Dave is a winner and sets high standards, not only for himself, but for his team mates around him."

Bennett also reveals the "irreplaceable" Dave Briggs is going to be a member of Deal's backroom staff for next season.

And speaking about Gary Johnson, Bennett added: "I am also hoping that Gary Johnson will be staying on to fight for a place as he is such an important guy to have in the side.

"His dedication to the club is second to none and I know he always gives 200% where-ever he is asked to play.

"I have spent the last couple of weeks talking to local players with the view to getting them in my friendlies pre-season and having a look at them - but it isn't easy.

"I am hoping to arrange a tough pre-season with my priorities on fitness.  So if they don't want to put in the hard work then this is not the team for them."

Bennett, however, admits the future is looking better for his second string - and bring the good times back to Deal Town as a whole.

"I know I have the foundations of a side that will fight to win back their division one status once more.

"My biggest thank you must go to the supporters who braved the cold, wet Saturday afternoons for us and stood by us.

"We will be back and hopefully give you something to cheer about this year.  Thank you for your dedication and loyalty - the club needs you all so much."
