Hares admits Deal are in a tough league
Deal Town manager Derek Hares insists he has plenty of reason for optimism after seeing his side lose their opening two matches in the Go Travel Kent League Premier Division, writes Kevin Redsull.

"The bare bones of it is that we haven't got a point from two games," said Hares following Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat by Herne Bay.

"But we have played well in both matches. I think we've had four or five shots on our goal in the two games, and four have gone in. We just need a break.

"But this is a tough league and my players, especially the ones who are new to this level, are learning that you can't afford to relax for a minute."

Deal are at home again on Saturday to Greenwich Borough, who have made a good start to their campaign with four points from two matches.

Deal will face the winners of the first-round tie between Sevenoaks Town and Milton Athletic in the second round of the Lea-Ray Kent Senior Trophy.

Deal will be away from home, with the tie taking place on Saturday, November 29.

Deal Reserves, the holders of the Kent Intermediate Cup, will meet either Herne Bay or Lordswood in the second round on December 13.
