Beckenham end dismal run

BECKENHAM TOWN finally ended their dismal run of 22 games without a win on Saturday, as a Mario Celair first half strike saw them win 1-0 at Slade Green in the bottom-of-the-table Go Travel Kent League clash, writes Stephen McCartney.

The long-awaited victory pleased Becks' assistant manager Jason Taylor.

"We've been playing well for the last 6-7 weeks but we didn't play particularly well yesterday, but we got the win," he said.

"We've played better this season and haven't won - so it's pleasing to get the win.

"It went right to the end, and they missed a penalty late on.

"Hopefully our luck has changed and we can go on a little run now."

Sevenoaks Town are the visitors to Eden Park Avenue in the first round of the Kent Senior Trophy in two weeks time.

Taylor is confident his side can continue their unbeaten home record - which has seen them draw Ramsgate and Hythe Town on their newly laid Eden Park Avenue pitch.

"We've been fairly strong at home, drawing our last two home games, so we expect to beat them," he said.

"We've also been playing some decent football so hopefully things are coming together now."
