Let's build a better club spirit

CHATHAM TOWN are allowing their under thirteen's squad to play at Maidstone Road as they aim to secure the MUSH Kent Youth League under 13 title at the first time of asking, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Medway youngsters, who play Bromley in their final game on Sunday 17th April (2pm), will play at the club's main stadium.

But Steve Binks, the club's first team manager, wants the club's youngsters to give their support to the first team players in their Southern League Division One East campaign.

Binks, who takes his side to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, said: "I will definitely be there on the 17th to support the under 13's.

"They have done fantastic this season and the management team and the lads have been a credit to the club.

"I look forward to the day in three or four years time when hopefully some of the lads are breaking into the reserve and first team.

"Unfortunately I don't have time to watch the youth sides as much as I would like to.  I also have a son who plays on a Sunday and enjoy watching him.  Sometimes it's the only chance I get to speak to him all week!

Binks, however, is trying to create a better spirit throughout the entire club and he added: "I would also like to repeat what I said at the recent managers meeting - about how nice it would be to see more of the youth teams at first team games, helping to build a better club spirit, maybe providing some half-time entertainment and acting as ball-boys."

Off the pitch, Chatham have organised a Music Quiz, which takes place in the bar following their last home game of the season on 30th April.  The event will begin at 8pm and tickets, priced at £5, which include a ploughman's supper, are available from the club.

The club's presentation night on 20th May, will as before be held on the pitch under a marquee.  Tickets are priced at £8 (adults) and £2 (u16s) and again, can be purchased from the club.
